A shared home for the Jaffna Muslim story: Global Platform Launched
15 Sep 2026PublishedThe first chapter of a community-built digital platform connecting diaspora generations and documenting oral histories is now open.
Today marks a major milestone with the official launch of the Jaffna Muslims Digital Platform (jaffnamuslims.org) — an initiative created to bridge generations, safeguard community memory, and support sustainable community development.
Why This Platform Was Built
Following the 1990 forced mass displacement, the Jaffna Muslim community was scattered across Sri Lanka (principally Puttalam, Colombo, Kurunegala) and across Europe, the Middle East, North America, and Australia. Thirty-six years later, maintaining generational continuity has become a vital priority.
Key Highlights of the Platform
- Generations Portal: Structured tracks for Elders, Gen X, Millennials (Gen Y), Gen Z, and Gen Alpha.
- Oral History & Archives: Audio recordings and testimonies documenting life in Jaffna before, during, and after 1990.
- Community Directory & Mentorship: 1-on-1 career connections between senior leaders in medicine, law, engineering, and civil service with NextGen students.
- Needs Assessment Tracker: Transparency reporting on educational, legal, and economic revitalization priorities.
We invite community members worldwide to contribute family photographs, records, and memory submissions via connect@jaffnamuslims.org.
